Representative Office of India organizes Cultural Event to mark the the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi 

As part of the Grand Finale of the celebrations of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi,  Representative Office of India in Ramallah, in partnership with  Ministry of Culture, Ramallah Municipality, General Union of Palestinian Writers, Awtar Center, Al Muntada, and Al Ruwwad,  organized a cultural event at the Ramallah Municipal Hall.  

In his remarks at the occasion, Representative of India Shri Sunil Kumar highlighted the relevance of the universal values espoused by Gandhi and their resonance in today’s world. Representative of India also emphasized on the values and principles of non-violence, and stressed on the importance of understanding the true potential and significance of Gandhian philosophy.

For his part, Mayor of Ramallah Eng. Musa Haddid shared his personal thoughts about Gandhi and his influence on Palestine’s quest for freedom and independence. Mayor Haddid also focused on the relevance of the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi in Palestine and how Gandhian philosophy has always drawn interest in Palestine, which is now increasingly evident in Palestinian life.

Government officials, intellectuals, writers, journalists and Palestinians from various cities and localities attended the event that showcased the legacy of Gandhi, his philosophy, teachings  and his universal message of peace, in addition to testimonials by Palestinian intellectuals and writers, exhibition of paintings of 30 young Palestinian artists, Gandhi’s favorite Hymn Vaishnav Jana To by Palestinian young artists, and an animated production by Palestinian children on Gandhi.
